I first got into exercising 9 years ago by competing in the KeriKeri half marathon with my good friend, Lyn. She said she’d do that with me if I rode around Lake Taupo with her a year later (didn’t know how to ride a bike before then). Being a heavy smoker for most of my life, something had to give, so I threw the smokes away and hopped on a bike.
